The third international conference on green and digital innovations, DigiGreen’24, was recently held in Vilnius

DigiGreen is the premier conference dedicated to innovations in green and digital transformation across the Baltic states. This event, now in its third iteration, consistently draws experts, business leaders, and innovators committed to fostering a more sustainable and cleaner future. The conference serves as a pivotal forum for discussing the most pressing issues in sustainability, the dynamics of change, and the trends and developments in clean technologies, among other vital aspects of this sector.

The conference was inaugurated with welcoming remarks from the Speaker of the Seimas, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen. In her address, she highlighted the significance of the Baltic region’s journey towards sustainability and technological advancement, noting a remarkable 70% increase in investments in Lithuania’s clean technology sector in recent years. This surge underscores robust investor confidence and the growing potential of the green economy. DigiGreen panel discussions – from sustainability dynamics to economic aspects

The event convened over 30 speakers, who are sustainability enthusiasts and experts from across the Baltic countries, alongside a broader assembly of attendees. The speakers represented notable companies such as Solitek, Teltonika, and Ovoko, engaging in substantive discussions with peers and policy makers.

The conference agenda covered pivotal topics in clean technology, including the dynamics and synergy of sustainability, trends in clean transitions, the significance of mobility in technology shifts, and evolving needs for talent. Discussions extended to the empowerment of sustainable e-platforms, green finance, the application of engineering enzymes to combat polyester pollution, and biotechnological innovations aimed at fostering a greener future. Furthermore, the contributions of universities and the academic sector to clean technology advancements were examined, along with the role of private funding in driving sustainability innovations.

 

The startup Honics has been declared the winner of the “Cleantech Catalyst” pre-acceleration incubation program

The conference concluded with a highlight event, the Demo Day of the Cleantech Catalyst incubator program, where seven teams vied for a 10,000 euro prize. Each team presented their innovative ideas for sustainable business solutions, developed over the last three months within the incubator at Sauletekis Tech Park:

  1. Biohifas showcased a natural mushroom growth model designed as a sustainable alternative to traditional meat, promising comparable taste and nutritional benefits.
  2. Deep Scientific introduced a portable device capable of measuring water pollution, applicable in daily life as well as in agricultural and military settings.
  3. Ekomūras proposed an environmentally friendly brick made from hemp, aimed at enhancing sustainability and longevity in the construction industry.
  4. Water Shield unveiled a water-based air filtration system that not only traps but also eliminates the most polluted particles.
  5. Nuar developed a system to streamline sales and logistics for small farms, significantly reducing carbon emissions.
  6. Restorie discussed the potential for refurbishing old electronic devices, a strategy to save costs and reduce global electronic waste.
  7. Honics presented their development of a robust UV light source technology designed to optimize and economize green hydrogen production.

The competition’s winner was the Latvian startup HONICS, which specializes in creating high-intensity UV-V and UV-C sources for use with photocatalysts, facilitating more efficient, faster, and cost-effective green hydrogen production. Their innovative approach includes bespoke sources, catalysts, and specially designed equipment to make hydrogen production more accessible and economical for all.
